anglais Pirates of the Caribbean = an unexpectedly successful attack on audiences' wallets, or a modern fairy tale about how Johnny's gorgeous make-up and Orlando's dark eyes made a fortune for Disney. I really can't remember the last time I took real pleasure in watching an all-around goofy and jerky actor with the amusing visage of a stoned Rastaman, as I did here with Depp. And Orlando? Someone should tell him that there are no elves in the Caribbean. He's wooden as always, but thanks to his romantic appearance he attracted a lot of female fans to the cinema (see the quote "I almost drowned in his beautiful dark eyes...") and they don't care whether he can act or not. Who can certainly act is Geoffrey Rush, hes smarmy corsair was a joy to watch. But the biggest star for me is Jerry Bruckheimer. Spectacular sets and a big budget, in short, what we are used to in his films. It must be a pleasure to work under his wing. ()

anglais Without Depp, the film would be almost hopeless, but Johnny’s Jack Sparrow is one of the best comic characters I've ever seen in a big film. Looking at Orlando Bloom, the question creeps into my mind whether his performance of "I am Legolas, but dressed as a buccaneer, don't confuse it, dear children" is meant seriously, or whether it is a deliberate exaggeration of the character of the incorrigible good guy Will Turner... Simple storyline, nice tricks, excellent humor; just a fun film the way it should be! ()

anglais Definitely the most comprehensive, logically independent, and with a clear margin the best part of the series. Verbinski, under Bruckheimer's supervision, accomplished everything he could, especially in terms of actors. Bloom is enough to portray himself as an innocent blacksmith, Keira is traditionally captivating, Rush is appropriately slimy, and Johnny Depp's performance has already become iconic after just a few weeks. A perfect example of an entertaining adventure film that can be watched over and over again. ()

anglais At the beginning of the new millennium, no sane person would have bet even half a penny on a film with pirate themes. The theme was considered exhausted and outdated, and not suitable for the era of computers and genetic engineering. The last attempts in the genre field also ended in failure. The idea sat in a drawer for a while, but director Verbinski finally took the plunge when he came up with an original, action-packed popcorn spectacle for all generations, and with a hero who had never been seen before. Depp's pirate captain has a much closer resemblance and behavior to the hippies of the 60s than to the classic idea of a sea wolf. And even within the series of extravagant loners and oddballs he usually portrays, he is an unmistakable figure. The film is a lavishly made special effects spectacle full of exaggeration and simple, yet unoffensive humor. It is in the best sense of the word a family adventure film that, in my eyes, does not age and even after the third viewing, I have no need to change my opinion about it. It's just a shame about the unnecessary sequels that plundered and diluted the successful original. Overall impression: 85%. ()

anglais Concentrated, clean, and excellent entertainment that really has very few weak points. Verbinski managed to revive the pirate genre and the attraction of Disneyland in a single movie. The truth is that he really had the support of Jerry Bruckheimer (thanks for Keira, Jerry :), ILM and especially Johnny Depp, who captivated everyone with his now-well-worn creation: Jack Sparrow, “The Worst Pirate You've Ever Heard of". Part two is knocking on the door of our old, dusty, small-town movie theatre. I couldn't go there without watching the first movie again. ()

anglais A great start, but for me the highlight of the trilogy is the second part. Orlando Bloom annoys the hell out of me in this film (in the same way he made Troy a bit unpleasant), but otherwise everything is OK. Captain Sparrow's arrival in port will hopefully go down in movie history! ()

anglais A great adventure ride, but I can’t say I liked it that much. Verbinski's direction is skilful and inventive in parts, but it all rests too heavily on the performance of Johnny Depp, whose deadpan and swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow may propel this unconventional pirate movie into the ranks of the most popular adventure films, but it's far from the best. What I missed was a more even and fluid plot, which is quite overstuffed in places and the strong makeup in the form of spectacular battles or great jokes can't completely mask it. 70% ()

anglais Disney was obviously flaunting their budget. Despite a few flaws, I had fun watching the film and I wasn’t bored even on a rewatch. Johnny Depp was brilliant as a bisexual pirate; Geoffrey Rush was charmingly half-mad, and I also liked the performance of my favorite Jonathan Pryce. On a more negative note, Orlando Bloom kept looking like the winner of a staring contest and his Will Turner turned out to be the least likable character in the whole film. Keira Knightley’s had better roles and her acting has been better, too. The humor in some scenes felt a bit forced and intended for cheap laughs. Then I realized who Disney make their films for, I eased up on the criticism and the fourth star was saved, so a happy ending after all. ()

anglais The film that made Johnny Depp a real star, a film that showed that pirate movies are definitely not passé and that Disney still has something to offer to a wide audience. Entertaining, action-packed, imaginative with great characters and surprisingly it doesn't get boring even after several viewings. True, I already know the story very well, but it's still a ride. ()

anglais A brilliantly entertaining and narrative effort from Jerry Bruckheimer's production stable. Excellent musical score, wonderful sets and costumes (unfortunately no "statuette"), and above all the excellent Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow make this a great film that I love going back to. I have indeed seen the first Pirates of the Caribbean many times. ()
