What impressed me at first sight were the visual effects, which are incredibly good. Considering the type of film it is and the fact that it's not some universally recognized horror star, these effects are simply excellent. The way the face of one of the monster hunters transforms is absolutely fantastic, but there are also other bits, including the puppets of the Critters themselves. I have to highlight this film for that, because even more demanding productions sometimes do not have such excellent trick sequences.
