Becky

An inoffensive home invasion flick in the style of Home Alone, with Kevin James playing a Nazi (he will hopefully get a prequel set in prison) and a believable Lulu Wilson, who will be on a rampage in Wick 5 in a few years. A quartet of prisoners manage to escape from a transporter and break into the house where Becky is spending the weekend with her father and his new girlfriend, but Becky is cunning and imaginative and gives them a good kicking. It's an inoffensive one-off that doesn't really impress with anything, though the murders are imaginative (pencils, ruler, key) and the actors make it easy to watch. Story**, Action***, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals***, Atmosphere***, Suspense***. 6/10. (10/06/2020)

Étant donné que, dès le début, Becky réussit à tomber dans les plus grands clichés du genre (y compris de fréquents flashbacks dans le triste passé de l’héroïne principale), on attend du film qu’il se rachète lors de l’invasion de la maison. Que nenni ! Terne et quelconque, la suite se contente plutôt d’offrir toutes les scènes et les motifs déjà vus et revus dans les autres thrillers ; sauf qu’ici, ceux-ci sont, en plus, à peine fondés: d’une part, l’esquisse de la motivation des mauvais est complètement fortuite et inexploitée, mais surtout, la révélation (disons plutôt la non-révélation) de leur but concret est franchement révoltante. De même que de suivre Lulu Wilson qui s’efforce tant bien que mal d’adopter une expression dure et une rage maniaque. Le potentiel de Kevin James dans un rôle qui n’est pas habituel pour luiest, luiaussi, à peine exploité. Faiblard. (12/06/2020)

I really don't understand why the word horror is listed as the genre of every other film. Either the people who decide are weaker than the sphincter of a one-year-old baby with diarrhea, or they are simply incompetent. I didn't find any traces of horror, but it was a surprisingly decent thriller. To be completely honest, I was even considering a fourth star until about halfway through the film, but I forgot about it as the story progressed. It was actually a sort of variation on Home Alone, except that Alone in the Woods was not intended for children's audiences. At least I hope not. Well, anyway, I kind of enjoyed this Chipmunk vs. Bad Guys slasher, even though it had quite a few weaker moments. (28/11/2020)

The American movie Becky not only features the more-than-interesting transformation of Kevin James but also works brilliantly as a revenge flick. Becky is played by a pretty young girl, and she takes down some pretty big guys. The movie's hype was based around this particular trope, and I thoroughly enjoyed how Becky portrayed it. The move’s great use of gore was just the icing on the cake. (31/07/2020)
