L'Axe est un arbre gigantesque qui s'élève au-delà des nuages. Sur ses hautes branches vit une petite communauté imaginaire en danger de mort. La sève a en effet tendance à se raréfier. Les dieux sont implorés en vain. Kaena, une jeune fille déterminée et rebelle, défie le Grand Prêtre et les croyances ancestrales. Allant à l'encontre des siens, elle se lance dans un périlleux voyage pour découvrir quels sombres desseins se cachent derrière les nuages. (texte officiel du distributeur)

Whatever its faults (the screenplay, the animation of some of the movements, etc.), there is one thing you cannot deny. That is, this movie is interesting. Unlike others, I did not get bored, and I found most concepts just fascinating. That includes the race of human-like tree-dwellers in a massive tree reaching up into space, the villager's gods demanding sap, the ancient alien, and all those things that are hard to combine and balance. Plus, I quite liked the main female protagonist too, which means I think that it was an achievement. So even though it has its weaknesses, perhaps even a lot of shortcomings, I am going to ignore them this time and simply declare that this was a fascinating movie. 7/10.
