After her brother Philip (Jaeden Noel) observes meteors crashing down to Earth, Drea (Tashiana Washington) is babysitting Jake and Trissy (Jack Fulton and Ava Preston) when she discovers furry and ferocious alien critters have invaded her town. The razor-toothed critters are hungry for human flesh and start tearing their way through the town, with Drea, Philip and the two children forced to run for their lives until they encounter Aunt Dee (Dee Wallace), who appears to take the fight to the critters. I remember the original Critters exactly like this - as deliberate trash with not-very-interesting actors, but with the cute black humor from the all-powerful critters. What I really like about the new sequel/reboot, which kind of rides on the Stranger Things wave, is that the creators don't use digital effects but classic puppets... And that makes it all the funnier. Sure, it's no masterpiece, but why the rigorous evaluation?
