Ryan Reynolds can consider himself lucky that he was saved by Deadpool, because after this movie and Green Lantern I would have otherwise considered him the worst fantasy blunderer of Hollywood. Which almost happened. If not for the one good character, portrayed by Jeff Bridges, which is an example of the typical inadaptable characters, I would rate this movie even lower. Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Bacon played real dumbasses and it was really hard to just get used to it in that hour and a half. ()

anglais A light-hearted, bite-size snack. A bit like Men in Black with ghosts instead of aliens. Here and there a snappy line, here and there a good idea, but nothing world-shattering. Bridges is funny, but steals the show too much, Reynolds is average. The best are scenes with their human avatars (the blond with the hairdryer), a shame there weren’t more. ()

anglais An unpretentious one-off spectacle that mixes Men in Black with Hellboy and sometimes Van Helsing rather than the oft-mentioned Ghostbusters. It's not a total failure, as Robert Schwentke is able to film frantic action scenes (the camera is constantly moving, but thankfully not shaking cheaply) and more intimate moments very engagingly. For example, the scene in which the main character dies literally took my breath away. Beck's pleasantly breezy listenable music works in the same way. And the actors are also good. Jeff Bridges may try a little too hard at times, but he manages to be entertaining for most of the film. Ryan Reynolds is sympathetic. But the script - again! I don't like it when filmmakers say: "Hmm, we have a rather original idea about dead cops, so the rest may does not have to be as original." After Nick Walker joins R.I.P.D., virtually nothing happens that we haven't seen before. And what a waste of such a wonderful world, where Marlowe detectives, British constables and Wild West sheriffs sit side by side in the police station! And in general, the world and the idea that the dead and the undead run among the living seemed to me somehow undeveloped and full of question marks. Shameful. This is how you throw away an opportunity to make a fun summer flick. Instead, we watch an ordinary buddy movie full of various quality gimmicks, in which the (initially good) joke is endlessly repeated, with mortals seeing Bridges as a blonde beauty and Reynolds as a little Chinese man. The film was purely average, but I don't particularly mind it. ()

anglais The pace is solid, the story is unorthodox in its thematic basis, and a few jokes bring out a brief smile, but it's bland, unfunny and ultimately unoriginal. Bridges is fine but overacts a lot in places, Reynolds seems to be elsewhere in spirit and Bacon does the cheapest caricature of himself imaginable. Instead of a targeted summer blockbuster, it’s a bland derivative film that will disappoint even those who don't expect anything great from it. ()

anglais I liked the movie, it's not a masterpiece. The action is definitely not everywhere, but at least the actors don't say too much nonsense. Actually, the film's dialogues are quite decent. If you're in the mood for a decent movie that doesn't try to be more than it is, namely an entertaining movie with an interesting idea, you will enjoy it. Yes, you probably won't leave the cinema amazed, but from what I observed, I didn't see a single disgusted face leaving the cinema. I consider this a positive, as well as the laughter I heard in the cinema. I also had a good time. It's not an overwhelming film, just a film for an evening, plus with a great Mary-Louise Parker.
