Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

Un tueur en série facilement évitable qui repose sur les prémices du premier volet, mais à la différence de celui-ci, il ne propose pas de nouvelles idées et se repose confortablement (et sans dissimulation) sur le concept de Battle Royale japonais et les éléments popularisés de Predator (Henry Rollins en tant que marine baroudeur peint) et du Massacre à la tronçonneuse original (une fille attachée à une table lors d'un dîner festif). Même les acteurs étaient plus intéressants et plus dévoués dans le premier volet. Ceux-ci sont banals et faciles à oublier. (07/01/2010)

It's your usual slaughter season in the Virginia agricultural cooperative that builds on somewhat stale genre mechanics and clichés, and puts under the knife a bunch of cocky youngsters with IQs only slightly higher than their mutant antagonists, but no one can deny that (at least in my eyes) it has a brutal pace, properly gory murders, amusing winks towards popular movie tropes (Rambo, Predator, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and one great character who decides to tackle evil in a truly exquisite way. An entertaining romp that may lack logic and real tension in the face of such vile, violent creatures, but otherwise everything about it, at least by the standards of a straightforward teen slasher, works pretty much to perfection. When you compare it to what followed in the series, this episode is actually quite tolerable. Especially because there is really quite good gore here and every now and then you come across a pretty good joke. But as I said, only every now and then. It's that kind of horror where it's all about the effect and nothing else, the atmosphere logically lacks here. (12/10/2014)
