Chucky 3

It was not clever to make a third film after only a year and to advance the plot by eight years. In addition, Justin Whalin's acting ceiling really was Jimmy Olsen in Superman, while everything else he did only amounted to effort. Child's Play 2 already lacked any internal logic - there were two passable ideas and everything else was just a constant burden. Chucky is the ideal saboteur and his swapping of the blind for the sharp was fine, and the finale at the carnival was fitting, but what next? Andy as a teenager? Andy as a troubled hero with no fear and loathing? And Chucky, unable to calmly cast voodoo spells on the lam? Come on. If it wasn't Bride of Chucky, this series would have had a really bad ending. In an ideal world, the second film would have been much better, and at the end of the third one, Andy would actually become Chucky, followed by the massacre in the mental institution where his mother had been kept this entire time. Pour la troisième fois, on nous ressert la même chose sans la moindre innovation (le changement de personnages et l’environnement de l’académie militaire ne sont pas de l’innovation). Ici, Chucky ne se montre que par moments pour assassiner un personnage totalement accessoire – ou alors il est empêché dans sa tentative et se met a jurer vulgairement. En tout cas, le scénariste Don Mancini ne lui a rien donné de nouveau à se mettre sous la dent. Après seulement un jour, les scènes clés du film se sont déjà à moitié évaporées de ma mémoire. La seule chose qui vaut sans doute la peine d’être mentionnée, c’est Andy Robinson dans le rôle du cinglé de la coupe des cheveux (et encore, ça ne couvre que quelques minutes du film, mais il est doué pour jouer les cinglés). Pour le reste, ce n’est qu’une insignifiante parodie du film Full Metal Jacket de Stanley Kubrick. (27/04/2019)

If you like the whole concept of the series, you will probably tolerate this installment, although it's nothing exceptional in the horror genre. There is an effort to present something to the viewer, which leads to the script appearing better than it actually is in a somewhat acceptable way. The development of the plot and relationships between characters is basically missing here. It's only about how to neutralize Chucky before he kills Andy. That's what the viewer gets. And that's it.
