anglais Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor was definitely not an anime series that I had any great expectations for – quite the opposite. After all, it is based on a computer game, which rarely means anything more than an attempt to be a good advertisement for the original product, plus the plot unfolds in the setting of a special academy, which I find is rarely anything interesting or original. There have been many special academies in the past, before the isekai era there were two or three anime series per year, and they were hardly ever good. So, as I had suspected, in some aspects Seven Knights Revolution: Hero Successor did not hold any real surprises for me, for example, the bad guys do not exactly look scary, the main protagonists were often full of heroic pathos, and my cringe-o-meter was going crazy at some of the dialogue. The atmosphere was also kind of bland at first, and I was pretty bored with the first few episodes. On the other hand, the fights did not seem pointless, some of the characters showed some potential to break free of being formulaic early on, and the plot also started to get going. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised with how it all turned out because it got pretty complex and there were several really good unexpected twists, so I could not stop wondering what was going on with Nemo, who was really behind everything, and maybe even who liked who. In other words, it really surprised me, and so gradually (towards the end) I started to really enjoy this anime series because originality has its charm. Sure, it still probably was not anything to write home about, the final boss fight had me wondering what on earth was going on, and some of the catchphrases had me chuckling cynically, plus the screenwriters failed to completely avoid certain tropes. However, on balance, I was still getting more than what I had expected at the beginning. Therefore, I think it is really an above-average special academy anime and an average adaptation of a computer game. I, therefore, have no problem awarding it 5.5/10. ()
