L'Histoire de ma femme (2021)

anglais Ildikó Enyedi slightly disappointed me with her new film. After the extremely original picture On Body and Soul, she comes back with a love story, but this time it's a bit more classic. The director's distinctive signature and at times almost magical poetry cannot be denied in this romantic drama The Story of My Wife, but the viewer's attention wanes due to the unnecessarily drawn-out plot. The reason may lie in the book, which I haven't read, so I can't really say in this respect. (65%)

Riders of Justice (2020)

anglais Not for nothing has Anders Thomas Jensen been one of my favorite screenwriters for a long time. After watching Riders of Justice, I'm even starting to seriously consider including him among my favorite directors as well. He has never disappointed me, quite the opposite. His work is not only wonderfully entertaining, but also moving or makes you think. He's done the same with this rightly wacky dramedy, where a strong foursome of social outcasts fight against coincidence by any means necessary, fantastically played by my favorites Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Lars Brygmann and Nicolas Bro. Titane (2021)

anglais Well, that was darn psycho! After the initial shock and disgust, I recovered a bit and ended up rooting for this monstrous creature with a titanium plate in its head. I dare say that Julia Ducournau has achieved something unprecedented. She has served the audience a nutritious, suspenseful and weighty movie with a plot which is impossible to guess in advance. And I consider that a real masterpiece, especially nowadays. (80%)

Next Door (2021)

anglais Now that's what they a bad day or, more precisely, a shitty day. I don't know how else to describe in a nutshell what successful actor Daniel experiences when, in the morning, all excited about a big role and goes to a local bar where he meets an elderly man named Bruno, who turns out to be Daniel’s neighbor, and is very taken with him. After that, an excellent conversation starts, which is clever and has balls, is somewhat unreadable, full of sudden twists and turns, and therefore also great fun. The resulting positive impression given by this movie is underscored by very convincing performances by Daniel Brühl and Peter Kurth. (85%)

Drunk (2020)

anglais Thomas Vinterberg has once again dared to cut to the quick. To make it as punchy as possible, he brought in Tobias Lindholm and Mads Mikkelsen to help him out again. This collaboration alone is a guarantee of quality for me, and it was confirmed once again. Another Round follows the story of four friends who decide to live by the motto "alcohol is the scourge of mankind and it needs to be tackled daily". This is also why it is not a full-blooded drama like The Hunt. There are a few lighter scenes, but painful and distressing moments start piling up as time goes on... For a while before the end I was hesitating between four and five stars, but then the irresistible Mads Mikkelsen showed his dancing skills and the decision was made for me. (90%)

Jiří pes uprchlík (2019)

anglais This is a bit perverted, but the relationships between men and women that exhibit certain socio-pathological phenomena are quite aptly captured by this movie short. Moreover, it’s often funny. (70%)

I'm Your Man (2021)

anglais I was intrigued by the title, and since I like German films, I couldn't miss I’m Your Man. After watching it, I am absolutely delighted with how the filmmakers managed to achieve the balance of comedic, romantic and slightly philosophical elements. Everything fitted together beautifully, I wasn't bored for a moment. Decent background music created a pleasant atmosphere, the performances of the main characters could not be faulted and the final twist was the icing on the cake. Although I am quite rebellious and quarrelsome, I sometimes find myself wishing I had a robot of my own. And if he looked like Dan Stevens, I wouldn't be mad at all. (90%)

Ted - För kärlekens skull (2018)

anglais The makers filmed this all too sunny for my taste. The sun still doesn't shine in Sweden, let alone in the head of Ted Gärdestad, whose quick rise to fame made a fine mess inside of it. He didn't live to a great age (he committed suicide by jumping in front of a train) and his success was probably mainly in his home country. I have to admit I didn't know a single song of his. However, I quite liked some of the songs in A Moon of My Own. Anyway, I expanded my musical horizons again, so watching this movie was definitely no waste of time for me. (65%)

J'y crois encore (2020)

anglais I don't believe in the Christian God, which is probably why the story being told really said nothing to me. Who knows, maybe I'd be excited if I were a believer. I did shed a few tears during the movie, but I dare say that there are much better and less cheesy films about dying of cancer than this one, which I simply have to take into account in my rating. On the other hand, I quite liked the ubiquitous religious-themed music. I didn’t know Jeremy Camp's work at all until now, but I'd like to hear more from him. (60%)

Périmètre mortel (2008)

anglais I have to admit that I quite enjoyed this more low-key ghost story. It was suspenseful enough, and I got really scared a couple of times. I also liked the performance of Famke Janssen as a woman terrorized by the ghost of her husband, whom she once killed in self-defense. However, I have certain reservations about the final denouement, where the ghost suddenly went soft and settled for the wedding ring. The stunts weren't very good either, but that doesn't bother me that much. (60%)
