Social Suicide (2015)

anglais If the quest for the highest number of likes is more important to today's young generation than real life and relationships that's not good news for parents and certainly not for humanity as a whole. Social Suicide illustrates how far such internet games can go and how little it takes for things to go really wrong. (75%)

Dating Amber (2020)

anglais Director and screenwriter David Freyne tells a quite original story about friendship and self-acceptance that has the power to engage more senior viewers too. At least I totally fell for it. I haven't seen such a good teen movie in a long time. I laughed a lot from the very beginning, some situations were really very funny. However, as time went on, there were also much more serious and sad moments, during which I came close to tears. I really must to praise the unassuming lead duo, Fionn O'Shea and Lola Petticrew, who managed to express a wide range of emotions with great sensitivity. I also really liked the 90's soundtrack, which accurately captured the era in which the movie takes place. (90%)

Actrices (2007)

anglais The very first shot of the piano grand made me realize that I had seen this film a long time ago, but I had totally forgotten the plot. I watched it again just to find out why I had no longer had any idea what the story was about. About halfway through the movie, it started to dawn on me where the problem lay. I found the inner struggle of an actress beyond her zenith with the frustration of unfulfilled lifetime dreams and ambitions so irritating that I quickly erased it all from my memory. But the final twist was quite fitting and I like Valeria Bruni Tedeschi quite a lot otherwise. (45%)

Jojo Rabbit (2019)

anglais Celebrated New Zealand filmmaker, Taika Waititi, has made a sort of satirical war drama, frequently bordering on the politically incorrect, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Although this movie is madness of the highest caliber, there are also very tender and touching moments. I would also like to mention that the film has a great cast. I was especially impressed by Roman Griffin Davis, who rocked as the main child protagonist. I was also very impressed by Sam Rockwell, who showed himself to be a Nazi in his own humanist way. The icing on the cake, however, was the imaginary Hitler played by the director himself. (80%)

Brooklyn Affairs (2019)

anglais "O it is excellent to have a giant’s strength, but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant" - Edward Norton serves the audience with an honest to god retro-detective story, the likes of which are few and far between in today's Hollywood. On top of that, he portrays a guy suffering from Tourette's syndrome in a completely unique way. Hats off to him. There were several such giants here, but the nearest one to central idea was most aptly played by the tyrant played with obvious gusto by Alec Baldwin. And the stylish jazz music which gives this movie a touch of flair and perfectly captures the atmosphere of the time must not be overlooked. (80%)

The Secrets We Keep (2020)

anglais How can you keep on thinking up new ideas and topics? I really don't care if someone else has already made a movie on a similar theme. In my opinion, the filmmakers managed to create just the right atmosphere - the kind that draws the viewer into the story. Another of this movie's positives is the cast, led by Noomi Rapace, who utterly convincingly portrayed the role of the Romanian refugee Maja. Joel Kinnaman, as the main villain, also did everything he could to come across believably. Although the story was predictable, the denouement of the whole plot was quite surprising. (70%)

Le Daim (2019)

anglais Quentin Dupieux could not have come up with a more bizarre story. I was most amused by the central plot, which revolves around a smug man and his obsession with a deerskin jacket. However, once the movie slipped into a kind of retro horror, I didn't find it very funny anymore. (60%)

Hollywood Homicide Uncovered (2016) (série)

anglais I thought that the annoying habit of repeating basic information a hundred times over was to be found only in the realm of home shopping, but this commercially conceived documentary series has put me wrong. This is a perfect example of how to spoil an attractive topic completely. (25%)

The Great Buck Howard (2008)

anglais This slightly satirical comedy attracts the audience mainly with its star cast, and it can be said that Sean McGinly did a pretty good job by his standards. John Malkovich contributed greatly to this, using his personal charm to literally inhabit the title role of second-rate illusionist Buck Howard. This time, surprisingly, I also liked Colin Hanks, who played his new inexperienced assistant. (65%)

Joyeuse Fête des Mères (2016)

anglais The beginning sucked, but as time went on it got going, so I had a lot of fun here and there. Jennifer Aniston deserved the most credit, but Jason Sudeikis wasn't bad either. However, one must bear in mind the fact that in real life everything does not end as sunny as in this nice feelgood movie, which will appeal more to women more than men. (55%)
