La Quatrième Dimension (1983)

anglais Except for Spielberg's piece (the second story), it's quite entertaining and overall well done - if you don't have very high horror expectations and won't mind not being scared during the stories. Here it's primarily about keeping the viewer entertained and perhaps even making them smile, and then also about seeing the great masks and effects, which are classic and sometimes fantastic, although not in any great quantity.

Kawasakiho růže (2009)

anglais This topic isn't bad at all, and sometimes I'd like to create a similar story that has depth, both societal and human. Unfortunately, the way it's presented, essentially as a meditation, isn't that great. And probably the strongest scene shouldn't have been the one where the husband tries to convince his wife with his mistress that he actually did nothing wrong and that they need to talk about it. This family storyline is only at the beginning, and in context, it thus seems rather unnecessary.

affiche

Jérusalem (2013)

anglais A nice documentary about Jerusalem, which could actually serve quite well as promotion from a travel agency. Visually, it's beautiful and portrays Jerusalem as a truly stunning city. In the commentary, there's plenty of information, but it's mainly about the history and the reason why the city stands, not so much about why it's crumbling, which the film does lack a bit in completing the whole picture.

Cold Deck (2015)

anglais It's not a great film, it has a lot of its weaknesses, but when I look at this and other similar B-grade dramas, I just feel that with this one, the creators tried and wanted to give it at least a bit of something. The characters aren't bad, their motivations are quite believable, and I managed to identify with them. This was nice, I didn't expect that.

L'Argent (1983)

anglais The interesting form of this film, which seems to be devoid of emotion, appeals to me on one hand, but then there's the fact that the film simply didn't entertain me. There are interesting details here that resonate with me and that I enjoy, but then there's the whole, which simply didn't click with me, and I found myself bored by it. I just can't consider the film that exceptional.

affiche

Sinister 2 (2015)

anglais Sinister 2 is a classic sequel. Unfortunately. There's almost no invention here; there's just an effort to develop characters in a sufficiently dramatic story that would then justify why the same thing is happening again and why Bagul can kill families on a large scale once more. Mostly just through the projector, but the threat also looms over the family we're following. This is really the only invention that was added to the film. Definitely don't expect the same great scary atmosphere as in the first film. It’s just an effort to build on something good.

Sans soleil (1983)

anglais Chris Marker might not be my favorite creator, although he's certainly unique with a lot to offer. His perspective truly isn't easy to replicate, just like the form in which he films. Even though it may seem like a documentary at first glance, there's a clear coherence here that's linked to Marker's personality, thus making it unique.

Daikaidžú kettó: Gamera tai Barugon (1966)

anglais As far as the script is concerned, the film really isn't anything exceptional that should grab your attention. A classic introduction with people, the classic arrival of the monster, destruction, and finally, the final showdown that decides who wins. It's not surprising in any way, at times there are nicely used miniatures that most viewers will find bothersome, and then it just ends with some sort of message.

Les Amours d'une blonde (1965)

anglais Even though Miloš Forman didn't have sufficient resources in Czechoslovakia to make big-budget films, he managed with what he had and could thus shoot small but powerful films that brilliantly depict who the Czechs really are and what trivialities we deal with in our lives without realizing that we're harming someone by doing so.

Seul sur Mars (2015)

anglais I was afraid of how a great book would translate into a film, but Ridley Scott simply didn't disappoint. Visually, this is a beautiful work, in places very reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Matt Damon really carries the film well, and the others not only complement him but also enhance the film wonderfully. Except for the message, which is even more pronounced in the book, I just have to like this one.
