Hysteria (1965)

anglais This is a film that works well with what it's been given. The plot isn't original, but it's handled in a great way where you can feel how much the creators wanted to create tension. They did that brilliantly and I am very happy with the result of the film. The ending is somewhat simplistic and lacks the right punch, but it doesn't change the fact that the progression is properly uncertain and gripping.

Dixieland (2015)

anglais A film that appears to be extremely serious and is so throughout. An independent film, which have been abundant lately, mainly because there's not as much need to fuss over the production, and they just need to rely on quality actors who can pull it all off. And the viewer, who may not be interested in it at all, because nothing really happens here.

L´Etoffe des héros (1983)

anglais I was very worried about how long the film was, but it's just so well made that it won me over and I just stared at how good it was and how much I enjoyed it. There are great scenes for relaxation here, but there are also absolutely captivating aerial scenes. It doesn't need a strong action-packed climax; it's just good in how skillfully it's filmed and captured. The special effects were great.

Gang jiong (2015)

anglais A few really well-executed scenes, whether funny, action-packed, or both, make this movie more interesting than it actually is. It's too drawn out to keep your attention the whole time, and the genre mix is such that you feel like some of the romance is really too much. At times, I had a great time, but it's a shame it wasn't the whole time.

Let It Be (1970)

anglais No, I just can't do otherwise with The Beatles. Hearing them sing and seeing them do it is beautiful, and it doesn't matter that it's in a form that sometimes resembles a recording made by a fan who happened to be around the band when they were rehearsing or playing. The foursome is simply breathtaking and yet you get the feeling that they are quite normal. It’s as if there was no indication that this was one of their last performances together.

affiche

Křídla Vánoc (2013)

anglais It's a nice Christmas movie that thinks it's very clever in its script, even though the characters are actually caricatures the creators play with as they need, so it's essentially a classic Christmas movie with added romance and the setting of the Czech Globus. I don't like Krajčo, but he's a good actor, but Vica is nicer to look at.

Le Quatrième Homme (1983)

anglais Paul Verhoeven isn't as explicit as David Cronenberg, but he still manages to grasp the essence of humanity and its dark side with such terrifying beauty that you almost don't want to watch it. This is precisely the case that is beautifully raw and also brutal, where in the end, you'll lovingly sigh at how beautifully it resembles Italian giallo.

Ma Meilleure Amie (2015)

anglais Thanks to the acting performances, it's quite enjoyable, and even the passages that would be overly sentimental elsewhere are bearable here. That finale is very well executed in terms of filming, and the death itself is captured very well, but I'm still not sure what the film was trying to say. That dying hurts? That it’s cruel? But you can come to terms with it? Or is it just that there are actors who can act?

affiche

Ghoul (2015)

anglais This is still found footage, and in its execution, it’s quite typical. I'm not enjoying these films, and neither Jákl nor Czech coproduction nor the fact that it has a very good visual side helps with that. This genre doesn't have much left to say, and the interesting information that Ghoul conveys could be communicated in a classic horror movie, which, of course, there was not enough money for.

Pytlákova schovanka aneb Šlechetný milionář (1949)

anglais A beautiful Czech film that shows that Czechs were truly capable of making great comedic and parodic movies, but seemed to have forgotten about it now. Martin Frič was an incredibly confident and self-assured director who excelled in both spoken and silent scenes. In addition, the film has excellent actors who are not afraid to overact. And the effect is perfect.
