Gregorio et Ingrid excellent dans leur métier, celui d'agent secret. Maîtres du déguisement au génie inventif, ils empêchent des guerres d'éclater grâce à leurs talents d'espion. Officiant pour deux nations ennemies, ils reçoivent un jour la mission d'éliminer leur ennemi le plus redoutable, à savoir l'un et l'autre. Mais lorsque leur regard se croise dans un lieu exotique éloigné de toute civilisation, ils tombent amoureux l'un de l'autre et décident de fonder une famille. Neuf ans plus tard, après avoir pris leur retraite pour se consacrer pleinement à l'éducation de leurs enfants, Carmen et Juni, Gregorio et Ingrid Cortez sont rappelés une fois de plus en service. Pour des raisons inexpliquées, les meilleurs agents secrets de la planète, anciens collègues de travail du couple, disparaissent les uns après les autres. Cette situation ne peut être l'oeuvre que de deux esprits malveillants : celui de Fegan Floop, star d'une émission télévisée pour enfants, et de son complice Minion. Lorsqu'on a cessé d'être sur le terrain pendant des années, les risques d'avoir perdu ses réflexes augmentent rapidement. C'est ainsi que s'est produit l'impensable : Gregorio et Ingrid sont tous les deux tombés dans le piège tendu par leurs ennemis. Jamais le couple n'aurait pu imaginer que les deux seules personnes sur Terre pouvant leur porter secours seraient... leurs enfants ! Se lançant dans une folle course-poursuite qui les mènera au château secret de Floop, Carmen et Juni devront par ailleurs déjouer un incroyable complot qui menace le monde. Robert Rodriguez (mostly) for children. The little ones will enjoy the adventures of the Cortez siblings, the adults will be delighted by their parents and uncle, in the spirit of a cute parody, so why not. Unlike both Machete episodes, I had a pretty good time.

At the beginning of the new millennium, Robert Rodriguez decided to fulfill his parental duty and make a film that would be for children but could also excite parents. He will not hold back and will let his imagination and classic elements of his films, mainly black humor (which has become simpler) and of course violence, run wild. Although violence is present in "Spy Kids," it is predominantly portrayed comically. This is truly a film about children for children. Carmen and Juni are children who have boring parents. Considering that their parents are Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, one may doubt their dullness, but they truly act that way in front of their children. They are ordinary parents, a little scared, but they love them. Although their home is filled with various gadgets and inventions, who doesn't have that? In reality, their parents are retired spies, and the children themselves are supposed to follow in their footsteps. The first "Spy Kids" film is great, as Rodriguez decided to make it professionally. Good effects, great actors who frequently collaborate with him, everything works. But the story... It might work for children, although I'm not sure if the film promotes children's violence. Children might then try to see what adults can handle, they will try to challenge them, but on the other hand, the film shows the power of family and sibling love, as well as love between parents and, of course, between parents and children. However, it is the children themselves who solve the problem and bring everything to a bright ending. "Spy Kids" is a film that unexpectedly began a long series and gave rise to gems like "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl."
