Gorgeous. I didn't believe in the film too much, but after ten my reservations faded and I enjoyed one of the best animation films of this year at least. A huge hit in China (750 million in earnings) and enthusiastic reactions from everywhere. The stunning visuals carry throughout the entire two hours and are literally a feast for the eyes; it's a very nice combination of Disney, Japanese Anime, darkness and Kung-Fu. Apart from the visuals, I praise the humour, the music and especially the action scenes – I enjoyed the nicely shot duels with demons or the classic Kung-Fu fights that times reminded me of Ip Man. I haven’t been this excited about animation as I was here. Nezha will definitely stick in my mind for a while. In terms of graphics, this movie is visually stunning in places, however, I fail to see the point of that when the narrative is so weak and the characters are not at all interesting, with the exception of perhaps Ne Zha's mother. I found some of them extremely irritating, especially the fat guy flying on a pig, which caused me to have a big enough problem with this movie... Maybe this was a big hit in China, however, personally I think it is just a purely average movie... 4.5/10. (27/12/2019)
