L'Attaque de la femme de 50 pieds

Film de monstre croisé avec un drame conjugal ? Pourquoi pas ! "L'attaque de la femme de 50 pieds" est un film de science-fiction délirant qui vous tient en haleine, sans jamais savoir ce qui va se passer dans cinq minutes. Et c'est là son plus grand atout. En plus de son aspect comique, accentué par des dialogues ringards, il dispose des pires effets spéciaux de tous les temps. Si vous aimez ce genre de film, vous ne pouvez pas le rater. Et si par hasard vous êtes aussi une féministe en colère, vous vivrez une résurrection ! (06/04/2003)

Une série B totalement bon-enfant qui, juste pour le principe, ajoute des éléments de science-fiction à l'histoire banale d’une femme aisée dont le mari à la moralité compromise voudrait se débarrasser. Une démonstration extrême des conséquences qu’une crise de couple peut provoquer quand des extraterrestres entrent dans l’équation. (04/02/2019)

Across the Atlantic this is a fairly iconic film (remember the scene in Jack Rabbit Slim in Pulp Fiction?...there's a poster for that movie hanging on the wall, but that's just for the record), which owes its cult status primarily due to its truly terrible effects, which are also the only fun thing about it. The rear projections are incredibly sloppy, the figure of the giant alien even shines through with the surroundings, which was obviously not the intention of the creators. In the final destructive rampage for her husband, the same shot of the giantess walking is used several times in succession, sometimes mirrored and with a different background, and they didn’t bother at all with the proportions. Also amusing are the details of the hand, a large polystyrene (or whatever the material was) maquette that perhaps only an almost blind chimpanzee would believe belongs to a human. The effects are really bad even for their time, they look more like a parody, and somehow it baffles me that the same director made the critically acclaimed The 7th Voyage of Sinbad in the same year. Interesting fact: it's possible that Juran was ashamed of the result and that’s is why he signed this film with a different name, Joe; and one more thing amused me: at the beginning the reporter points to the globe where the mysterious flying object was seen. He speaks about Auckland, but is pointing to South Africa. Americans, they can’t see further than their nose :) (22/10/2004)

Someone completely dropped the ball on any special effects here, and that disappoints me. I enjoy 1950s sci-fi films known for their B-movie charm and cheapness, but this one is just too weak. There is nothing interesting to grab onto. The woman who is 50 feet tall isn't really present here, and the occasional image blending used was done better thirty years earlier. It’s too weak.
