Date limite

Ce serait une comédie déjantée assez cool si celle-ci n’avait pas pompé aussi ouvertement sur Un ticket pour deux. Parce qu’à côté de sa prémisse et de sa structure, elle va jusqu’à copier certaines scènes et dialogues – les scénaristes auraient-ils perdu leurs scrupules, un an après la mort de John Hughes ? Et là où, dans le film original, John Candy faisait l’andouille maladroite et finissait par s’attirer la sympathie du spectateur, ici, Zach Galifianakis incarne un sociopathe dangereux avec qui la plupart d’entre nous ne peuvent avoir d’affinité. Vu que, fondamentalement, on est en face d’un road-movie divertissant, on pourrait encore fermer les yeux s’il s’agissait d’un remake avoué, mais le fait de nous présenter ce film comme une œuvre distincte relève de la plus pure arnaque. Une comédie buddy road-movie intelligente et civile, capable d'être follement WTF tout en restant ancrée dans la réalité et humaine. Le cœur d'un scénario réussi repose sur les personnages incarnés par Downey et Galifianakis et la chimie qui fonctionne parfaitement entre eux. Galifianakis n'est plus seulement un personnage comique silencieux, comme il l'était dans Very Bad Trip à Las Vegas. (20/01/2011)

I’d kill him. I guess I’d kill him. A really pleasant comedy, and surprisingly it all works mainly thanks to the chemistry between Downey and Galifianakis. Downey is amazing, as usual, delivering perfect one-liners almost every other minute, while the other one is a complete jerk, a disgusting pig with a masturbating dog. Todd Phillips literally builds on this contrast and puts the duo in situations that wouldn’t occur to the viewer even in their wildest dreams. He went a little overboard sometimes, maybe that’s why I didn’t give it the full five stars. Anyway, I had an amazing time watching it and I hadn’t laughed like this in a long time. Dad... I would expect that Phillips, after finding his life film for the audience, would repeat the pattern in a more average (digestible) form. Instead, he goes far beyond all reasonable limits, not yielding to incomprehensibly vulgar gags, and the humor of the whole film is reliably hidden in the box of "weird". Several more serious moments actually don't make much sense because they are clear and immediately brushed off, undermining the script in both aspects. Shortly after it ends, one realizes that if someone unknown were in Downey's place, Due Date would actually be a total debacle. The second star shines purely thanks to the merits of Iron Man, who manages to maintain his composure and charisma even when fighting a disabled person or facing a masturbating dog. P.S.: When Galifianakis timidly mentored and cautiously acted in Tru Calling years ago, he was really nice. When he became known for his comedic roles, I wished him well. But when he plays the same type for the fourth or fifth time, the scruffy drunk/high fool, I can't stand to see him. For this, Phillips gets a big minus. (14/12/2010)

And once again the great comedian Zach Galifianakis returns to us, and once again he's equipped with a lot of great lines and jokes. He just hits me the right way and as road movies go this is the best choice. But I can't forgive myself for comparing it to The Hangover again, which set the bar really high. And although it has one brilliant scene, it's just not up to the level of The Hangover. It gets 4.5 stars. (24/05/2011)
