Based on the poster, based on the Kalevala epic and based on the fact that it was filmed by the Finns, I thought that this will either be a total blast or a total flop. And the best thing about it were the contradicting opinions that it’s either really good or really bad. And unfortunately, I have to lean towards the “bad”. I didn’t really love the combination of history vs the present. I also didn’t love the combination of Finland vs China, even though I thought I wouldn’t mind at first. But it just wasn’t fun, it was really stupid and everything else stood or fell by that. In any case, I must admit that the filmmaking was really nice at times, especially the Kung Fu scenes; the Finns probably won’t get to film those again.
