Stuck

An effective horror thriller with a touch of black humour by Stuart Gordon. I expected something like the B-movie version of Misery, but the opposite is true. What makes Stuck so interesting is that the villain is a normal person driven by a desire to stay away from trouble. The bloody scenes are scarce (but very good), and you will laugh more often than look away. Although there are quite a few funny scenes (for instance, the opening shot of the old people in a retirement home with a hip-hop soundtrack), the film never falls into the realm of comedy, which is good. It’s supposed to be based on real events, and I’m quite willing to believe it. Certainly recommended. (29/07/2008)
