Patrick, a strange and lonely resident, lives in a mobile home at the back of an isolated caravan park. After a violent thunderstorm erupts, a mysterious young woman appears at his door, seeking shelter from the weather. The longer the night wears on and the more the young woman discovers about Patrick, the more difficult she finds it to leave. Soon she begins to question Patrick’s intentions, while Patrick begins to question his own grip on reality. (Umbrella Entertainment)

L’incertitude psychologique bien décrite d’une jeune fille qui entre dans la caravane d’un étranger par mauvais temps et ne sait pas si son propriétaire est dangereux ou non. Le dialogue d’une heure, au cours duquel les deux personnages s’examinent mutuellement et attendent la réaction de l’autre, est ponctué par le grincement de la caravane et le bruit violent du tonnerre, du vent et de la pluie. Le type est bizarre, opaque et surtout paranoïaque. Ce qui, après certains événements, conduit à une nature sauvage hallucinogène avec un mélange de cartes factuelles sur la table que le spectateur trouvera déroutant. Dommage. Jusqu'au dernier quart, il s'agit d'une étude psychologique minimaliste fascinante et astucieusement réalisée, avec deux personnages réunis par le destin dans un lieu isolé et entre lesquels une tension nerveuse est habilement construite sur une longue période. Le travail solide avec l'obscurité, le montage et les sons de l'orage environnant aide également. Cependant, cela est gâché par une conclusion narrativement confuse qui tente au dernier moment de relier tous les motifs, de surprendre avec de nouveaux rebondissements et peut-être même de choquer un peu, mais cela est fait trop hâtivement et de manière chaotique.

A hilarious Australian psychological slow burner with two characters with one cabin and a violent storm, all with great cinematography, great acting, well-written dialogue, great music and a paranoid mystery atmosphere. I'm the last person to praise this kind of movie without jumpscars and gore, but I have to say that the third act won me over enough that I won't hesitate to give it 4 stars. I really like the themes where a stranger knocks at your door and you don’t know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy all the time, and it's really not transparent here. Even though the first hour is just dialogue in a cabin that makes up for the knocking on the door and a nasty storm, it works and kept my attention. It picks up nicely towards the end and kicks off with a decently intense atmospheric paranoid-hallucinogenic inferno, where the sound designer again does a precise job. An Australian gem that made an impression. 7/10.
