Lately, I've been quite lucky with good animated stories that have a great horror atmosphere. "Blood: The Last Vampire" is a beautiful example that shows horror can be made in animated form. It has an excellent atmosphere and the story is not bad either. This is something that would fit well in a longer series, which eventually led to spin-offs that "Blood" had.
