The Honor Student at Magic High School

I thought this was a similar fail as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria was. I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to create a narrative around a cute little girl whose most prominent character trait is devotion and love for her onii-sama (cue the drinking game - where you down one shot every time “onii-sama” is mentioned, and then you are shitfaced in under ten minutes), and that this is what audiences really want to watch. Tatsuya is cool, something I already noticed in The Irregular at Magic High School, however, having to listen to the constant, intense, passionate sighing and reminders of how cool he actually is from Miyuki and her friends got pretty irritating after the first episode and it did not stop. Otherwise, the first half of the season deals with discrimination, just why weeds are not any worse than blooms, and the second half deals with the annual magic tournament. Probably the only added value in all of this, something extra that I did not see in the original series, is a more detailed depiction of the rivalries between the girls and their motivations, which could make for interesting subject matter perhaps, but not for me! It is still quite watchable (except for all the "onii-sama"), however, for me personally, it was basically a pretty unwanted and unnecessary anime series... 4/10. (26/09/2021)
