La Traque (1975)

anglais This is a somewhat different revenge film, where it almost seems like it's going to be torture porn like in the case of I Spit on Your Grave movies, but it has a different nature. The woman is raped, then she seeks revenge succinctly, and in the end, she becomes the prey herself, essentially turning into the hunted. This film succeeded with its atmosphere and the cat-and-mouse game it portrays.

La Tête haute (2015)

anglais I can't help but feel that if it had ended differently, I might have appreciated it more, but as it is, it seems like the film paints something that isn't entirely realistic. Maybe that's how human destiny, at least in this rendition, might actually turn out. The lead actor, Rod Paradot, however, really took on his role excellently and portrayed it very well in all aspects.

affiche

Jésus, l'enquête (2017)

anglais Well, this is another pile of crap. Even though it's based on truth, I can't help but feel that a film like this is dangerous. It's religious propaganda that - what's worse - has a very pleasant, professional appearance. Clearly, the church has money. It could have been an interesting story, but it isn't, and it's full of fanatical beliefs.

affiche

Láska v hrobě (2012)

anglais A harsh film about human fate that can affect you. We look at them as the dregs of society, but just watch them for a while, and you'll realize that their lives and feelings aren't much different from ours; it's just that their needs have been reduced, and yet they still lack fulfillment. As it nears the end, you find yourself questioning whether the camera should have just observed or done something more.

affiche

Bloodsucka Jones (2013)

anglais Based on the IMDb ratings, you might think that the few people who saw it have a different sense of humor, but I rather think they were probably friends of the creators who were just being kind. A rating of 55% is still quite high, because even though the acting performances are bad and not downright terrible, even though it makes basic sense, it's simply a film about nothing, lacking any other cinematic qualities.

affiche

La Danseuse (2016)

anglais It reminded me a bit of Egon Schiele, which I saw recently. It's biographical, and it's good, but it feels more like a classic biographical drama that lacks something extra to really elevate it. Sure, you learn about the life of a person you probably don't even know, and yes, they had an interesting and dramatic fate, but that's just what you'd expect.

affiche

The Lost City of Z (2016)

anglais I guess I really wanted this to be a film in the style of Jules Verne and his stories, but it's much more a film about following your destiny and your dreams. Actually, the message isn't bad at all, but trying to fit it into more than two hours didn't sit well with me. Scorsese attempted something similarly meditative, but better, with Silence.

affiche

Baby Driver (2017)

anglais I don't know why, but there was just too much missing here to make it great. The individual elements are excellent. The music is delightfully chosen. The action scenes are simply excellent. Some actors are great, but I was expecting more black humor, which is very scarce here, yet it would have been fitting. And I thought Jamie Foxx was pretty awful. A good impression, but not great.

Un gallo con muchos huevos (2015)

anglais I didn't have much faith in a Mexican animated film, but it's clear that the creators at least made some effort to entertain their audience, which they somewhat succeeded in, although it's evident in the animation that it's often simplified - the eggs are a clear example - but even so, the movements are very well done. The story is not innovative, but the overall execution was good enough for me.

affiche

L'Affaire SK1 (2014)

anglais A realistically shot French crime drama that evokes older French films with actors like Gabin and Delon. But it's modern, it's raw, and it's quite gritty when it comes to the crime scene shots. But the focus is mainly on the characters and their relationships and their development, which puts the story a bit in the background.
