The Monster (2016)

anglais The Monster proves that monster horror is not a dead genre and that it is still a genre with something to offer. The film makes good use of the nighttime atmosphere, and utilizes tension and escalation well, all while being set in a very limited space. In addition, a very pleasant heroine, which I didn't expect, but Zoe Kazan handled her role excellently. We need more monster movies like this.

Laputa (2015)

anglais I can't help it, for me, this is a classic Czech film that leaves me cringing. The actors want it to be interesting, they think it has something to say, and it's even symbolic with references to classic literature, but it's really just about how we fail to live our lives. Perhaps it’s not a bad theme, but I didn't like this rendition.

La Nuit d'en face (2012)

anglais An example that even in Chile it's possible to make quite an interesting film that manages to captivate. Sure, it's not for everyone, as it deals with death, life, and memories, but that doesn't mean the film can't thrill the audience. For me, however, it's more about encountering something that I would appreciate significantly, just because it captivated me with its unique approach.

La Grande Vadrouille (1966)

anglais Bourvil and Louis de Funès are a great duo in this film, mainly because Louis de Funès is not so theatrical here, but uses the comedy of the situation and mimicry or gestures. It's not as loud, which is simply great. Additionally, World War II is portrayed with a beautiful sense of humor that must be appreciated, along with the bizarreness of some situations.

La Glace et le ciel (2015)

anglais If you enjoy ice, you'll love this documentary film, which beautifully shows how even icy landscapes can be stunning, how variable they are, and how beautiful. Sure, probably not everyone will go there, but the documentary shows how beautiful our Earth is in every way, and how there are people who want to explore it and not destroy it.

The Wall (2017)

anglais A rather bold attempt at filming a quite confined movie. A group of snipers fighting for survival. A few characters in a very small space, almost nothing is going to happen, you think, but it's not boring at all, and you wonder how it will all turn out. Taylor-Johnson and Cena showed their skills and impressed me. I had a nice time with it.

The Exception (2016)

anglais Christopher Plummer shows what a great actor he is, and that he certainly hasn't forgotten any of his artistry. Nevertheless, he is not the main character; that role belongs to Lily James and Jay Courtney in a romance full of passion, lies, and betrayal, which ultimately becomes quite dull because it doesn't bring anything new. The Nazis almost don't fit in here, although it is, of course, based on historical events.

affiche

La Captive (2000)

anglais Chantal Akerman really isn't my cup of tea, and I'm not sure if any other film directed by her would be good enough for me to finish watching it. It doesn't strike me as very intellectual, but rather just an attempt to show how destructive and nonsensical relationships can sometimes arise. And end.

affiche

La Vie d'une autre (2012)

anglais This is such a great theme! A woman is with a man, and then suddenly, boom, she wakes up, she's ten years older, but she doesn't remember what she did for the last ten years. She must confront her remembered essence, which is ten years old, with the significantly different reality. The acting was good, but the storyline doesn't fully utilize its potential.

The Audition (2015)

anglais It's funny, that's for sure, because the dynamic between De Niro and DiCaprio just works here, and Brad Pitt's performance adds to it. But still, much more could have been made of this collaboration, even if only in the context of a short film, and it could have been a bit funnier and more explosive. The short runtime doesn't disappoint either.
