Epidemija

The series was a huge disappointment for me. It's a Russian series, so I thought I would finally get to see things from a different angle, but it turned out to be consciously pro-European. As if that wasn't enough, the pair of screenwriters bit off more than they could chew. They clearly didn’t know how to create enough suspense, so the whole story was really boring, made even worse by the unnecessary digressions. With the exception of both tigers, I found the rest of the characters unlikeable or downright annoying and I'm glad I said goodbye to them today. (12/03/2021)

This Russian Netflix epidemic series is a bit of a disappointment for me. The story focuses on Moscow, where a horrific epidemic breaks out and we follow a group of people trying to survive, and unfortunately that's the stumbling block. From the very first episode it's clear that there will be no zombies, which would still be tolerable if the show was set in the city and we were watching the army clearing one village after another, but the Russians have opted for a more intimate format and made the show more of a road movie, which doesn't work when you have uninteresting characters. The female characters in particular are unlikeable and terribly annoying, and most of the time, unfortunately, nothing much happens. As a result, we don't even get to know the name of the epidemic in question or how it progressed in Russia or the world, and I found that irritating. Technically, To the Lake is decent, and the music is good too, featuring some well-known Russian hits and I heard Hans Zimmer a few times, but I would have preferred to see the series in a more action-packed and horror-oriented mode.
