La voix, dans la version originale, est celle de Tilda Swinton, d’une sérénité marmoréenne malgré la disparition annoncée. Elle règne sur de superbes plans d’architecture brutaliste désertée, qu’une caméra virtuose déleste de sa pesanteur de béton pour la rendre presque abstraite, d’une beauté géométrique et sans âge, densifiée encore par un noir et blanc profond. Tournée dans l’ex-Yougoslavie – parsemée de monuments de guerre futuristes de la période Tito –, cette fable de science-fiction aux accents prophétiques joue avec les temporalités pour mieux alerter notre époque. Par l’entremise de sa messagère omnisciente, c’est en fait notre présent qui appelle au secours. Esthétiquement racé et doté d’une force de sidération rare, cet essai filmique du compositeur islandais Johann Johannsson, qui en signe la musique lente et hypnotique, constitue aussi sa dernière œuvre. Brutalement disparu en 2018, à 48 ans, l’artiste plusieurs fois nominé aux Golden Globes et aux Oscars n’a pu achever lui-même son film, finalisé par son équipe. (Arte)
