WandaVision (2021)

anglais Although I have watched all the MCU feature films, I have avoided the series so far (for time reasons), but in the case of WandaVision I decided to make an exception, as I was hooked by the appealing theme and the extremely likable cast. (Spoiler alert!) WandaVision is undoubtedly a superlative series project and an unconventional genre hybrid in one – in nine episodes we get a traditional sitcom, a superhero romance, as well as dark fantasy and family drama. Unlike the MCU films, which rely mainly on flashy (and for some, perhaps overwrought) audiovisuals, WandaVision tries to work properly with the characters and goes deep – even if at times the creators pushed their feelings, I ate it up hook, line and sinker. Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen were both very likeable and the chemistry between them worked well, as I've seen from previous films. They were well supported by Kat Dennings, Teyonah Parris and Kathryn Hahn (at times slightly theatrical). I was intrigued (and also moved to some extent) by the motivations of the characters that drove the plot forward. Alongside this, I enjoyed the subtle (but still satisfying) connections to previous MCU projects, and I also enjoyed the building of the witch mythology. Despite a few weaker moments, I'm ultimately happy with the series. ()
