Unfortunately, this is an incredibly weak adaptation where one should always prefer to return to the 1931 film, which is incomparable to this one. John Hannah is incredibly ordinary and theatrical in the role and really doesn't fit the part. The set is nice, but it just comes across as a historical drama where I appreciate the rather surprising amount of blood.
