Devant l'horreur Alain Resnais et Jean Cayrol ont préféré la mémoire insupportable à l'oubli. D'insoutenables images d'archives, des images en couleurs des camps à l'abandon et un texte volontairement froid et accablant, font de ce film un chef-d'oeuvre qui a marqué les mémoires. (ARTE Éditions)

The document simply says - look at what we have done, learn from it, and never do it again. The footage shown here is terrifying in itself, but in contrast to the colorful scenes filmed for the documentary and in accordance with the commentary, it is truly a powerful experience that reminds us of what monsters we are.
