(Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival)

anglais An unexpected gem and one of the best films I've seen in a while. I wasn't too impressed with the first part as it focused on playing the game GO, which I don't understand and don't care much for, but the sequel is a different story. The movie has a very good story where we follow a little boy who is literally abandoned by the world and is told not to bet his future on the game GO, that he has no talent and is useless, but everything changes once he meets a man who decides to train him in, and a very rough training session ensues with very rough conditions that would make even Rocky sweat, and the boy, with his great determination, would like to take revenge on the man who damned him. It's a very brisk revenge caper, where I surprisingly enjoyed the acting as well, since it's not money that's at stake, but limbs or life itself, and it instantly becomes more suspenseful and grittier than before. Thrown into this, of course, are the perfect fights, which are imaginative, uncompromising and always in a great location. Fighting in a narrow alley or in a toilet in the dark with only the aid of a flickering torch is the pinnacle of the action genre from Korea, reminiscent of the cult-classic The Man from Nowhere. I was really shocked at how much I enjoyed the film. Visually it's top notch, well paced, has a likeable hero and good villains, an engaging story and breathtaking action. It couldn't have gone better. Story****, Action*****, Humor>No, Violence****, Entertainment****, Music***, Visual****, Atmosphere****, Suspense****. 8.5/10. ()
