An espionage, sci-fi thriller with a metaphysical twist, Counterpart is about a mysterious world hidden beneath the surface of our everyday existence. Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) is a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double crossing... where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world. The show explores themes of identity, fate and lost love, posing the eternal question: "what if our lives could have been different?" (HBO Europe)

anglais An outstanding spy series spiced up with a twist concerning parallel worlds. The creators build on the characters, mainly on the excellent J. K. Simmons and slowly introduce the world/s. Cleverly setting the action in modern-day Berlin makes a nice parallel with the times of the Cold War and the Berlin Wall. The emphasis on tangled relations, layer upon layer of lies and intriguing twists is complemented by a good fantasy element. The conclusion serves well as an ending, but offers loose ends for another season. Just great. ()
