The little witch is only 127 years old and the older witches do not take her seriously. Although it is strictly forbidden she sneaks in at their annual congregation on Blocksberg with the big dance around the fire and she gets caught immediatlely. She is sent away and has a year to pull off some seriously good witchcraft if she wants to be invited to Walpurgis Night next year. Straightaway she starts practicing to become a good witch. Always by her side her best friend and companion, talking raven Abraxas who pushes her to do good instead of pranking people. At the same time the big witches, especially frightening Rumpumpel, observe this with suspicion. Because being a good witch normally means to do everything BUT good. That puts the little witch in a big dilemma. (Berlinale)

anglais Thanks to The Little Witch, we can revisit Otfried Preußler's most beloved fairy tale books. Karoline Herfurth is amazingly cute, cheerful, playful, and brave. I highly recommend it, especially where the unnecessarily restrictive impression has taken hold, namely the idea that they don't know how to tell fairy tales in German-speaking countries. ()

anglais An enjoyable German fairy-tale that will not amaze you, nor will it offend you. The plot passes by effortlessly and you don’t get bored during the hundred minutes. The cast was generally well chosen – the cute Karoline Herfurth vs. the slick Suzanne von Borsody – and I must admit that technically the film was also decent. A likeable respite, ranging between three and four stars, which fortunately doesn't rely on cheap and infantile humour, thus distancing itself from most genre films of recent years. ()
