What did Germany look like as it stepped into the nightmare of WWII? This hour captures the desperation and fear that drives a population to follow one man's chilling call to world domination. Entirely made up of restored, colorized archival footage, it plays like a real-life horror film of Hitler's rise to power—effectively placing us on the streets of Europe in the 1930s. Nobel Prize winning scientists and intellectuals like Einstein fled the Nazi regime along with half the Jewish population. Book burnings and university boycotts were rampant, as Hitler said "A German man won't be a man of books but a man of will." These evacuations and events would change the face of history—we step back to take a deeper look at how it all began. (National Geographic)
