Kill or be killed is the golden rule of the Game of Death, which sucks for seven decent-looking young friends who decide to play one sunny day. They quickly and gruesomely realize that if they don't murder people, their heads will literally explode. Hence, they go on a killing spree, taking the lives of anyone they meet in their middle-of-nowhere town. The killer-instinct in each of them bubbles to the surface as their search for victims unravels into chaos. Divided, terrified and confronted with their own mortality, their drive to survive blurs with their desire to win the game. Will they turn on each other? Jumanji meets Natural Born Killers... The Game of Death will blow your mind. (South by Southwest Film Festival)

anglais A fun and bloody slasher in the style of Jumanji, but nothing over the top. A bunch of teenagers start playing a strange game called Game of Death, which orders them to kill 24 people and if they don't their heads start exploding. The film has the advantage of being only some 73 minutes long and it moves along quite quickly, so there's no danger of boredom, and there's quite a lot of blood. It bothered me, though, that the last 25 minutes are just shooting, which I wouldn't mind in an action film, but here they should have used knives, axes, chainsaws etc, and given the large body-count on offer, the deaths could have been far more inventive – I only remember one of the 24 potential deaths as a result. It bothered me a little that all the police officers are women, especially the sheriff (a pensioner with dementia, that was a joke). The acting is mediocre, the dialogue isn't worth much (they could have at least included a joke every now and then and the girls could have undressed,). But praise should be given to the apt and excellent music, which you can hear already in the trailer. All in all, a fine bloody one-off, but they could have done a lot more.
