Baby-sitter, Jill Johnson garde les enfants Mandrakis en l’absence de leurs parents. Rien que de très ordinaire ce soir-là pour cette étudiante de 17 ans. The American movie When a Stranger Calls builds on a great opening, and the ending is what makes up a bit for the slower and quieter middle passage. The conclusion is brilliantly set up, and even if you have an idea of where the killer is hiding, the movie still manages to play with you. When a Stranger Calls is a timeless movie that has not aged a bit.

Effective atmospheric horror that goes full speed at the beginning and by the end, but slows down a little in the middle, without ever becoming boring, though. The superb actors deserve praise, the killer is not as insane as for instance the one In Black Christmas, but he’s all the more scary for that. By the end I was wishing the film would be a bit longer, but that wouldn’t have been possible without getting bogged down in genre clichés. 75%
