Timecop

With a refreshing premise and a competent director even an action flick with Van Damn can be pretty entertaining and good. Surprisingly, they don’t go too over the top with the concept of time-travel and, though the logic is quite dodgy at times and the special effects aren’t very good, the premise is simple and straightforward and never gets boring. And the way the main villain is dealt with is so bizarre that puts this heartfelt nonsense into the must see list. 60% (25/03/2020)

It is really hard to come up with ideas for this. It is the most worn out B-movie vest, from which at times we see a hint of tension and a scrap of a quite decent theme. Only a few places really shine, where Jean Claude plays out his acting talent in grimaces so mysterious that even the Mona Lisa looks like a readable bank clerk compared to him. As for the visual effects, I can only note with regret that there could have been more, because they are so magically unobtrusive and amateur that they are guaranteed to entertain. It’s too bad that the screenwriter did not lean more into the dialogues. It could have been a lot of fun and not just a few beautiful gems of the spirit, freely scattered in the visual waste. The way it is, Timecop just amounts to tolerable boredom about time travel. (14/04/2006)

A very interesting film, and if it wasn't directed by a B-movie director like Peter Hyams, it could have been even better. Some flaws are unfortunately visible due to the low budget, especially when it comes to the sets and the production design. But the action is excellent and the love story is one of the best in Jean-Claude Van Damme's filmography. In a way, it is a quite unique project in terms of content. Time travel is presented somewhat clumsily and certainly not without errors, but the film has drive and is entertaining. Additionally, Mia Sara in the lead role will mesmerize many people.
