Fire and Reign (2018) (S08E09)

anglais The ninth episode didn't exactly blow me away, but it did earn an extra star compared to the last one, all thanks to the visit to the house of Romanov. I didn't expect to laugh so hard! Those Russian scenes brought back the best moments from the cycling trip. It was downright infectious — I couldn't help but crack up. ()

Apocalypse Then (2018) (S08E10)

anglais I can't shake this nagging feeling that the series got out of the creators' hands. That bizarre ending basically renders most of the previous seasons irrelevant. I was going to watch the ninth season, but now I'm not sure if it even makes sense anymore. ()

1984 (2019) (S09)

anglais Yet again, I was far from satisfied. Judging by the course of the last two seasons, the creators of the series have run out of creative ideas, of which they had quite a few in the beginning. Unfortunately, they kept coming back to their "go-to" strategy from Roanoke (if there’s no atmosphere or tension, at least let the blood flow). In the ninth season, the writers supposedly wanted to pay tribute to the 80's horror classic, in which case I find it hard to understand why they didn't shoot something with a horror atmosphere. I wasn’t entertained, but, knowing myself, I'll watch the tenth season anyway (if I live to see it) to see if I can take it. ()

Le Camp Redwood (2019) (S09E01)

anglais I didn't set my hopes too high after having seen the previous season. Surprisingly, though, I enjoyed certain parts of the pilot episode, mainly because of the nostalgic 80s vibe rather than the writers' effort. ()

Le Fantôme du camp Redwood (2019) (S09E02)

anglais The way the series portrays Richard Ramirez is a disservice to the real person and his victims, making them seem like fools. And don't even get me started on the logic — or lack thereof. This was clearly intended for viewers who are reluctant to use their brains for anything beyond accepting what's presented. ()

Slash Dance (2019) (S09E03)

anglais This reminds me of the approach the creators took in Roanoke. Once again, they opted for excessive bloodshed and scattered body parts over building tension and crafting a quality atmosphere. Unfortunately, just like before, I wasn't impressed. ()

Tueurs nés (2019) (S09E04)

anglais PavelVanekArt nicely summarized the events in the fourth episode, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I would add that I found the oven quite amusing (I mean the appliance, not Xavier, although...), and I was pleased with "Rebel Yell". It's a shame that Billy Idol is singing in this particular affair. ()

L'Aube sanglante (2019) (S09E05)

anglais I hate to sound like a broken record, but when a show is dubbed "American Horror Story," I anticipate genuine horror. Sure, there's no shortage of blood, guts, and the occasional decapitation here, but to me, that's more suitable for an anatomy lesson than a horror series. The atmosphere is sorely lacking, as if the creators approached it more like one big Easter. There were more resurrections than actual deaths. It's all right as long as the miners don't start piling up in the mine... ()

Exécution (2019) (S09E06)

anglais I have already given up on expecting a horror-filled atmosphere. However, what really grated on me this time was the painfully predictable script. There wasn't a single moment that caught me off guard; instead, I found myself sinking deeper into boredom. I'm giving it one star out of sheer mercy. 1*- ()

La Dame en blanc (2019) (S09E07)

anglais Throughout this season, the quality has been on a steady decline, making this episode somewhat of an anomaly. Surprisingly, I wasn't bored this time. I didn't think this show could surprise me anymore. ()

Repose en pièces (2019) (S09E08)

anglais While the script did offer a few intriguing moments, they were far too sparse, leaving much of the plot feeling hollow. Visually, the episode was vibrant, and the sound design was on point, but it all seemed to lack a sense of direction or purpose. Essentially, it felt like little more than obligatory filler leading up to the season finale. ()

La Survivante (2019) (S09E09)

anglais If it weren't for the unexpected joint narration by Montana and Trevor in the final episode, I might have docked a star from my rating. Yet, their dynamic managed to entertain me and even elicited a few laughs, prompting me to be a somewhat forgiving, albeit disappointed, viewer. Still, the overall outcome was rather lackluster: blood-soaked scenes, a sprinkling of humor, but lacking in tension or atmosphere, culminating in a sentimental family-centric finale. For a series that boasts horror in its title, it fell short of expectations. 3*- ()
