Le film se déroule dans un environnement identique au nôtre, sauf qu'il est peuplé d'animaux. Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) est un élégant koala qui dirige un grand théâtre, jadis illustre, mais aujourd'hui tombé en désuétude. Ce dernier est un optimiste acharné, qui aime son précieux théâtre au-delà de tout et serait prêt à l'impossible pour le sauver. C'est alors qu'il trouve une occasion en or pour redorer son blason, tout en évitant la destruction de ses rêves et de toutes ses ambitions: une compétition mondiale de chant. Cinq candidats sont retenus pour ce défi : Une souris (Seth MacFarlane) aussi séduisante que malhonnête, un jeune éléphant timide, dévoré par le trac (Tori Kelly), une truie, mère de famille débordée par ses 25 marcassins (Reese Witherspoon), un jeune gorille délinquant qui ne cherche qu'à sortir des affaires véreuses de sa famille (Taron Egerton), et une porc épic punk qui peine à échapper à l'emprise de l'égo surdimensionné de son petit ami pour faire une carrière solo (Scarlett Johansson). Au fur et à mesure des répétitions tout ce petit monde va réaliser qu'il n'y a pas que le théâtre qui mérite une seconde chance et que la scène représente l'opportunité qui pourra changer leur vie à tous. I don't really like singing competitions, but my daughter seemed to like this so I guess it was okay. The animals are properly bizarre, with the chameleon clearly leading the pack. The precisely composed soundtrack pulls the whole finale. The scenes with the monkey dad escaping from jail with Elton's background score are pretty hilarious. Great Frank at the end... I didn't hear the stellar cast; dubbing is unsurprisingly preferred for fairytales.

Sing is a nicely made animated film that doesn't offer as much depth and lessons as, for example, Inside Out or Zootropolis, but it is still an above-average piece that will not be lost in today's animated production. On the one hand, it is quite predictable, but it's not too infantile or silly, so the somewhat flatter script can be tolerated. In addition to the excellent soundtrack full of familiar songs, Sing offers a number of different characters, with the most amusing being the ancient Mrs. Crawly and the perky Mama Rosita. In short, a likeable, brisk and colourful romp that's perfect for a free evening.

The animation was nice, but I didn't find the story engaging at all. I'm pretty sick of various talent shows and competitions on commercial TV, so I find movies with this theme redundant. Since I didn’t have much fun and was hoping for it to end soon, I think I gave the movie more stars than it deserved.

When the Beatles song played at the beginning, even though in a new arrangement, I knew the film had won me over, even if the story would be quite predictable, simple, and perhaps overly emotional. But the musical aspect here is truly great, with fantastic song selections that were beautifully rearranged. I'm satisfied.
