So we’ve finally lived to see an A-grade movie from Lithuania. It brings a story that isn’t overly aggressive or cruel but brings out the terrors of a post-war era with moments and shots that speak for themselves. The tale of little Marija took my breath away. She’s lived through terrors of the war in her own way and with very little understanding. On the other hand, she was lucky to meet good people, so even though she’s gone through hell, it could have been even worse. Exactly as the reviewer danliofer says, this movie is a lot of things, but definitely not black and white. It opens up a lot of questions and they all have something in common – humanity. The final scene has pierced my heart like a Nazi’s dagger. ()
