As I watch movies by Jared Hess I feel that even though he has the bad luck of trying to establish himself with comedies, he is actually fortunate because, for every dumb movie he does, he casts an actor who elevates the movie to least a level higher. Here Zach Galifianakis handled it with absolute precision and thanks to him I can actually say that I really enjoyed this movie. Even though it seemed really boring in the beginning. And that’s despite the fact that it had a number of kinda funny moments that actually weren’t all that funny. After a while, a one-man-show set off, and on top of that, there was plenty of blundering by Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, and Kate McKinnon. At least it wasplenty for me because I really like all of them and here it wasn’t their job to make me laugh. That was the task of Zach and he passed with flying colors. ()

anglais One of those so-called comedies that seem at least half improvised... And that’s quite possibly the case. It makes you wonder if the original script was worse, or the other way around. Too bad. Quite a promising cast and plot based on real events. ()

anglais Since I had to struggle to keep watching the film after the first fifteen minutes, two stars are a decent rating. The only thing that made me hang in there was Kristen Wiig, for whom I’ve had a soft spot for quite some time. The story did get better eventually and some of the jokes actually worked, but I will steer clear of this film next time. ()

anglais Jared Hess is a very specific writer whose comedies are not for everyone. I like his style quite a bit, even if I don't really seek him out. Masterminds is certainly not his best film, but through the characters he depicted here, he truly brought out probably the best he could with the casting. At times, I enjoyed myself. ()

anglais Zach Galifianakis has never been one of the actors whose films I would seek out, but I really liked him here. Mainly thanks to his comedic talents, I laughed quite a lot during this funny diversion. I was even amused by the toilet and genital humor, although I could have equally done without it. (65%) ()
