Surnommé l'Alpagueur, il n'a ni nom ni prénom. Seul l'inspecteur Doumecq connaît son identité. Aussi sert-il d'intermédiaire entre cet être anonyme et la police qui utilise ses services de mercenaire. Son dernier contrat : mettre hors d'état de nuire un dangereux criminel surnommé l'Epervier. Assurant ses alibis grace à sa profession de steward, l'Epervier a la réputation d'éliminer tout ses complices. Seul Costa Valdes a échappé à la règle. L'Alpagueur va l'intérroger, et un duel sans merci va désormais opposer l'Epervier à l'Alpagueur... (AMLF)

An absolutely proper French movie with everything it entails and most of all with Jean-Paul Belmondo in the leading role. Nevertheless, Bruno Cremer complements him nicely and the whole movie with these characters is absolutely flawless. The story is not the most complicated one, the suspense is brutal, and it is so rough that it is almost over the line for a French movie, which is often connected with honesty. The movie was really amazing. The finale with Oscar Wilde’s quote knocked me down so hard that I spent at least another hour thinking about the movie. The facial expressions, the eye contact… This is France at its best.
