L'entrée à Valhalla échappe à Ragnar, mais comme il est au lit à Kattegat, les événements se déroulent hors de son contrôle. Bjorn ordonne l'arrestation de Floki pour le meurtre d'Athelstan, Rollo trahit le dernier de ses partisans à renforcer sa position à la Cour française. A sketchy time shift where things don’t fit together, but we are all used to it already. The illogical decisions made by the main characters are probably deliberate, after all, there has to be something at least a little innovative about the plot in the fourth season. For example, a final action set-piece that will be surprising. For a first episode, traditionally weaker and more circumspect.

The start of Season four was quite lukewarm. The events in Kattegat weren’t particularly interesting, and the earlier intrigue seemed to have vanished, leaving the story a bit bland. I added a fourth star only because of the happenings in Frankreich. Rollo brought some humor (his wedding and wedding night) and ended up driving the most crucial events of the first episode.
