During the World War II, there was wartime between Brazil and Japan. At that time, tens of thousands of Japanese Brazilians were forcibly resettled by local authorities, they had to close down their business and the state established official detention camps. However, the narrative show Dirty hearts presents the time after end of the war when the tension between population persisted. In 1945, when the information about the end of war and capitulation of Japan started to spread, lots of Japanese communities refused to believe and considered it to be work of propaganda. Those who accepted defeat were denoted as „dirty hearts". Through this samurai drama, film director Vincente Amorim lets spectators look into a complicated Brazilian history that is until now lined by ethos of immigration and multicultural society.
