4 Avril 2010, la famille Quintanilla est retrouvée assassinée dans sa maison de campagne. La police découvre une preuve : une vidéo de 37 heures de témoignages enregistrés... Atrocious décrit les cinq derniers jours de la vie de Cristian, Julie, les étranges situations qu'ils ont vécues dont certaines restent inexpliquées. La famille Quintanilla est partie en vacances à Sitges. Sur place les deux aînés ont enquêté sur une légende urbaine - la fille des bois de Garraf -, ont filmé tout ce qu'ilsont vu. Le cinquième jour ils ont été retrouvés morts dans d'étranges circonstances... (Wild Side Video)

At some point I came to terms with the fact that those two kids would be in that stupid green maze until the end credits. I was looking forward to Atrocious, but in the end it’s a below-par film. At least the execution is more professional than the recent, and awful The Tunnel. But the long night scenes, where the only thing you can see is shrubbery, really pissed me off. The ending is OK.

"Atrocious" follows the classic trend of found footage films and strives to transfer horror onto the viewer by making them a part of the story through handheld camera footage. For me, this simply doesn't work, and I don't become a part of the story. On the contrary, this camera starts to repel me, and I am no longer able to understand the effect for which it continues to be used. However, young - and maybe not only young filmmakers - will continue to experiment. Maybe next time they will succeed in scaring me a little again. But in this case, not at all.
