Ce film devait conter les aventures d'un guerrier en quête d'un trésor. Seules quelques scènes furent tournées en 1972, avant la mort tragique de Bruce Lee. Le producteur Raymond Chow utilisa alors un sosie et une histoire différente : celle d'une vedette persécutée par la mafia, pour terminer le projet. Malgré cela, la touche personnelle de Bruce Lee reste très perceptible notamment dans les célèbres combats de la pagode durant lesquels il affronte des champions de différents styles d'arts martiaux avant de terrasser le géant Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
