Freakdog

A solid and pretty well executed horror thriller whose only significant weakness is that it’s unnecessarily restrained, even when the premise leaves a lot of room for some proper brutality. You can appreciate its ambition to be something more than just brutal carnage, but only on the condition that there actually was that “something more”. What we have instead is a gang of unlikeable almost teenagers, an unlikeable freak in a coma, an angry “ghost”, and a game of drama. But it was still nice to watch. Three stars and thanks God for every horror film that goes over the bar of the average. (28/01/2009)
