Une jeune libraire du village new-yorkais, adepte de l'empathie, se voit propulsée, par un journal, à Paris pour présenter la collection d'un grand couturier. Là, elle rencontre le grand maitre "empathicaliste" qui ne reste pas insensible à ses charmes tandis que le photographe du journal la poursuit de ses assiduités. Une musique de Gershwin pour cette suave comédie musicale qui propose un Paris très Hollywoodien. (AB International Distribution)

anglais An almost incomprehensible piece. A playful musical, a parody of the fashion industry, or an ode to Paris? It's hard to judge. There are too many clichés layered one on top of the other, as well as the overripe Astaire and the supposedly well-liked Audrey. It's not good. The transformation of the funny-faced intellectual into a world-class model simply isn't going to happen, although she would like it to... Or maybe the people at that magazine could be happy for a change. Be that as it may, the short career of this icon, who looked different from generations before her (and only by doing so should have become immortal), thankfully soon fizzled out. ()

anglais Within the films starring Audrey Hepburn, Funny Face is a slightly above-average piece of filmmaking that stands out, thanks in particular to the acting, dancing and singing of the main trio - Hepburn, Fred Astaire and Kay Thompson. Story-wise, this is a simple film, without any depth, but it is so sweetly delivered and acted that it can easily be forgiven and put behind it. There is no shortage of romance, which is enhanced by the Paris setting, and plenty of music and humour, most of which is provided by Astaire (and Thompson). Audrey Hepburn is once again wonderful, endearing and exceedingly chatty (as is her Liza Doolittle). All in all, a likeable and colourful film with a great cast and an enjoyable musical score. ()
