Gianni Garko plays an insane man admitted to a psychiatric institution that no one can identify. While in ward, he starts having flashbacks of what brought him there. He starts to remember how his car broke down and when he went looking for help he came upon a strange man burying his dead son. Strange scenes of the macabre ensue leading up to the gruesome night with this backwoods family who secrets are slowly revealed. What strange curse is this family hiding? (RaroVideo U.S.)

Ni un film de série B et encore moins d'euro-trash ici. Giorgio Ferroni dévoile ici un drame captivant sur les membres d'une famille maudite vivant dans une ferme au cœur des forêts yougoslaves. Ou plutôt le drame d'un voyageur perdu qui demande de l'aide pour réparer sa voiture. Tout - du casting et du rendu des personnages à la révélation des conséquences de la malédiction, pour laquelle nous sommes initialement sceptiques, tout comme le héros principal - fonctionne si bien ici que les scènes purement gore surprennent en réalité par leur simplicité. Mais agréablement - dans les vieux films d'horreur italiens, qui reposent souvent davantage sur le gore, un tel drame de qualité et un tel enchevêtrement de personnages sont rares, voire exceptionnels. L'atmosphère gothique du lieu est bien entendu présente, avec de belles femmes et une faune abondante, ainsi qu'un motif amoureux subtil qui approfondit la conclusion du film et préfigure presque les moments culminants cultes de certains chefs-d'œuvre cinématographiques (je ne veux pas tout révéler). Une qualité incontournable de roman adapté sans doute.

The Italian-Spanish movie Night of the Devils has a very good atmosphere, and you can see that it does more than the average movie. If the British had made this, it might not have been so gruesome, and there would not have been perhaps so many naked women. Although maybe they would have had they made it back in the 1970s. The movie’s makers produced a very explicit movie, which makes this movie work and intriguing even after all these years. At least it will interest fans of horror movies.

Fear and terror … unfortunately they didn’t show up. At the beginning I thought it could work out, because locations in the Southern European countryside for some mysterious reason work on me and can help otherwise average films. Not this time, though. To begin with, it’s incredibly slow and I fell asleep around the middle when I tried watching it the first time. The following day I managed the second half without sleeping, but to my dismay it was even worse than the first one. The ending was not good, either. The fight with the zombies was funny.
