The Noels Diary, as many other Christmas films, has an awfully predictable and generic romantic line representative of its genre, but it also has other themes, like coping with loss and the past and finding one's roots, so it doesn't feel too mainstream. The cast was mostly likeable, and I praise the certain understatement in Ellie's search for her mother.
