Cunk on Earth (2022)

anglais After diving into this miniseries, I'm glad to see that the British can still deliver quality humor. While it may not reach the perfection of Monty Python's Flying Circus (yes, I'm an absolute hardcore fan, but not trying to convert anyone), I still had a thoroughly enjoyable time. As I've mentioned in the reviews for each episode, the last two episodes managed to push me out of my comfort zone at times (and I don't mean that as criticism). Philomena Cunk is truly a one-of-a-kind character, and Diane Morgan was the perfect choice to bring her to life. ()

In the Beginnings (2022) (E01)

anglais Philomena Cunk, portrayed by Diane Morgan, is a great character for me because she perfectly captures the level of education of a large part of today's YouTubers and other influencers. Except Philomena is smarter because she knows that Greece is in Europe and that there is a sea between it and Egypt. You need at least average intelligence to distinguish between facts and humor to watch this miniseries. If you meet this condition, you could find "Humans vs. Cows 2D" amusing. As for me, I learned something new as well. Now I know that when a repairman, such as a plumber with a unibrow, comes to me, I won't panic because they might not be stupid at all and could have really skillful upper legs. I have also found out that ancient Egyptians treated homeless people terribly, and that I shouldn't build a house under an angry hill. I also finally understood the principle on which a wheel works. / Lesson learned: Want to always be right? Be confident and convincing. ()

Faith/Off (2022) (E02)

anglais Philomena Cunk focused on religion this time, and I realized that I find the official explanation even dumber than her somewhat peculiar knowledge. At least Philomena can make me laugh. However, I don't want it to seem like I'm only laughing; the fact is that she also made me learn a lot of new things. This time, I discovered that Jesus, a historical figure like Garfield, was born Jewish but soon converted to carpentry. And yes, it's beyond me how Christianity could have spread so much when he only had twelve followers. / Lesson learned: I find it entertaining when supporters of different religions fight each other. ()

Rise of the Machines (2022) (E04)

anglais The fourth episode earned a solid five stars from me, and it wasn't because the creators came up with better humor or a greater concentration of it. The reason was exactly the opposite. Several times during this episode, the humor completely escaped me for a moment, leaving me frozen in place. Not even the popular Swedish band at the end could quite lighten the mood. Oh yes, this added some extra depth for me. But don't worry, there was still plenty of humor :-) I discovered that I've been an addict my whole life because I'm addicted to air, learned that faith can carry mountains and keep planes in the air, and gained insight into the enormous success of British designers with their single-use submarine, the Titan 1 C. / Lesson learned: Women are people too. ()

War(s) of the World(s)? (2022) (E05)

anglais The fourth and fifth episodes of this miniseries have a certain added value for me. While I initially started watching this for the humor, the creators also presented some unsettling yet thought-provoking facts that, although I was aware of, really caught me off guard here. The final episode didn't skimp on the expected humor, but for me, it also felt like a critique of contemporary society. It warrants even sharper criticism, but that might require a completely different project. Once again, I was thoroughly satisfied. / Lesson learned: I believe humor can be found in everything; I'm not against jokes even about the most tragic events because sometimes laughing about something helps us cope with it. However, the delivery of the joke matters greatly to me. I wouldn't want to hear jokes about the Holocaust from someone with a swastika tattooed on their forehead. Actually, I wouldn't even want to hear them say "Hello" to me. ()
